Selection Criteria for openstage etc's Season
Each openstage etc season will consist of 3 productions and/or staged readings. Any given production may meet more than 1 of the set criteria; however, each script chosen must meet at least 1of the requirements listed below. Therefore, the Script Review Committee is concerned primarily with the first criteria, keeping in mind the mission, vision, and subsequent selection criteria outlined in this document.

  • openstage etc produces original works when a script of merit is selected. Original work is reviewed and chosen by the Script Reading Committee. Scripts can qualify for either a staged reading or an openstage etc production, depending on the quality and scope of the script.
  • openstage etc is dedicated to producing cutting edge and/or controversial scripts. In order to qualify as "cutting edge" a script should explore and/or challenge issues of political, social, ethical, gender or racial import.
  • openstage etc is dedicated to at least 1 script that is brought forward by a Company or Associate member who is passionately invested in its production. The primary goal in producing such a script is to expand opportunities for our artists, providing our members with opportunities that would otherwise not be available to them in OpenStage's regular season. This is also an excellent training ground, expanding our work base for both OpenStage and openstage etc productions.
